FTP and partitions

Hi,

I have one 4Tbyte disc and 2 partitions connected to my RT-AX88U (version:3.0.0.4.388_24209). I would like to use FTP so I enable FTP and created an FTP-user (Menu "USB-application" - tab "FTP share").

I disable all subfolders of all the (sub)folders on one partition. After this FTP-user log in in via FTP this user can see the file structure of both partitions. And I would like that a specific FTP-user can only see one partition with its folders.

Is it possible to create an FTP-user that can see only one partition?

The sticking point might be your use of disk partitions rather than file folders within a single partition.

The ASUS instructions does not mention anything about not showing a partition. It would also be ok if folder could be not shown.
The "NO" (see autorisation) only allows us to disable browsing that folder. Not "not showing".

I'm quite familiar with Synology NAS "Access-Control List" (ACL). I routinely give a user specific file folder access and 'hide' all other folders not within the file path.

As you rightfully point out, 'No' (or none/deny) would typically mean no visibility as it does on my NAS, which was the reason for my saying "it would seem so". But then, Asus is not saying they conform to full Linux ACL functionality.

Without direct experience with Asus ACL functions/features, the best I can advise is to play with it. But I would not be surprized that Asus will not give you the ACL capabilities you seek and that a real NAS will.

It is not possible to hide subdirectories of the root directory in stock Asus firmware. FYI This is normal behaviour for traditional ftp servers.

And does the ASUS Merlin firmware support this feature (hidden partitions and/or folders)?

Merlin's firmware is the same as stock by default. However, Merlin is customisable so you could hide specific file/directory names by modifying vsftpd.conf. Alternatively you could install a completely different FTP server through Entware, but then you'd have to configure it entirely from the command line.

And didn't thought of that by installing a different FTP server (good alternative ;0)

Hi @ColinTaylor - thank for your help.

I updated to Merlin's firmware and used the /jffs/configs/vsftpd.conf.add file to configure that an FTP-user so he can only see one partition and one folder on that partition.
I used, in the vsftpd.conf.add file, the variables "deny_file" and "hide_file" to realise this.
