New Around Here
Hey all,

I decided to take my home (wired) network Gigabit. I have a switch in mind D-Link DGS-1024D 24-port 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Rackmountable/Desktop Switch - though I may drop to 16-port.

I'm trying to decide if I want to integrate my wireless network into my primary one (currently wireless Netgear in my old Linksys 5-port) and/or whether to bother with having an integrated firewall.

So maybe not so basic -
- Best bang for buck Gig-E Router
- Included firewall?
- Include Wireless N?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tib

From your description I think the WNDR3700 will suit you just fine. Great wifi router and it has GigE LAN ports.

What are your hesitations about merging wireless with your main network?
When you say integrated firewall..are you talking about the router? All home routers that run as gateways have a firewall due to how they work...NAT. It's a basic firewall that by default blocks all incoming unknown traffic..which is first and foremost what you want. Are you looking for more UTM features?
