New Around Here
I recently upgraded from a 4TB hard drive to a 10TB hard drive. My 4TB hard drive was formatted in NTFS and I connected it to my router (GT-AC5300) with Media Share ON. For my new drive, I decided to use HFS (Journaled, not Case sensitive) because it simply works a lot better on my Macbook Pro than the NTFS drive.

However, I'm now experiencing an issue with how the drive's contents show up on my Samsung TV via AllShare/media share. If I add a file (via FTP) to a subfolder within the main folder of the drive, the file will show up in the main directory and not in the subfolder that I put it in. I can confirm that the file is actually located in the subfolder either through FTP or by directly connecting the drive to my computer.

The only way to resolve the issue is to remove the subfolder from the list of shared folders within the USB application>Media Share tab in the Asus router web interface and then to add it in again. After the rescan, the file will show up in the proper location.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I never experienced this issue with my NTFS-formatted drive so I'm inclined to think it has something to do with the HFS-formatting on the new drive. However, another issue might be that technically the router can support drives up to 4TB and this issue is related to the fact that I'm using a larger drive that is now fuller than 4TB. However, I've read several posts from others on here that they've used larger than 4TB drives with Asus routers without any problems. Another possibility is that the problem is on the Samsung TV's end too. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I ended up reformatting the 10TB drive to NTFS. I no longer have problems with files not showing up in their proper locations. So, the issue is not that the drive connected to the GT-AC5300 is larger than the officially supported 4TB. At this point, I think the issue is related to the router's handling of HFS+ formatted drives and not the Samsung TV. However, I could be wrong.
