How many times does Merlin have to say , "No, I can't do this because the required code is closed source?"

He means the software components are closed source means that they are encrypted, and he can't access it plus Asus doesn't sync the source code with the other units making it extra work that he doesn't have the time for. Also do a fourm search on his previous response on the matter.
I was one of the few people that wanted it to be supported Merlin said no and stated his reasons.

Even if Merlin wanted to create a firmware for this model , he couldn't as much of the code he would need to access is off limits , closed source.

His very clear explanations have been posted here many times over.

If you read the forums you would see many requests for new features on models he supports, again the majority of these are not possible because of closed source/proprietary software issues.

As Martineau pointed out, it's not a matter of the code being closed source - the GT-AC5300 has the same types of GPL releases as every other models, except they tend to not update it as often as their mainstream models like the RT-AC88U. The main issues still have to do with the amount of work involved in supporting just that specific model.

If someone wants GT-AC5300 support that badly, then he can fork my code, and do it himself. It's technically possible, but I simply don't have either the time or the motivation to do so myself.
