Happy with my EA6900

After playing around with it, I'm getting best performance using 157 as my base channel.

Trying to use the lower channels actually hurt me quite a bit.

Another great thing about this router I found - I can make changes to the configuration in the middle of the day and nobody here even notices. It's been more than 4 years since I could say that. Changing a setting on a Netgear router invariably resulted in a 1-2 minute outage.

I just wanted to update everyone, the router became extremely unstable today just out of the blue. I ended up having to reboot it.

After reboot, things don't appear to be "normal". My transmit rate on my iMac is fluctuating up and down between 162Mbps and 54Mbps. Before it was stuck pretty solid on 108Mbps.

I've actually gone ahead and ordered an AC68W (I like the white vs. the black). I'm not going to troubleshoot for a month like I did with the Netgear. I'm gonna reset this thing to factory defaults, reconfigure it, and then run it against the Asus side by side and send one back.

Got my AC68W today.

Much prefer the GUI of the Linksys (by quite a bit actually).

Unfortunately, for performance it isn't even a contest. The Asus has better 5Ghz throughput and performance than the R7000 and it's almost twice as good as the EA6900 for what I'm trying to do.

I got a WRT1900AC and I love it.

It has the same GUI as the EA6900 but performs like the R7000 and AC68U.

I've finally found my router.

I really hope so *smile*!

Me too.

The first big test is in a couple of days. 48 hours was the max uptime I could get out of the R7000. Once I get past 2 days, I'm gonna feel pretty good about this purchase.

I feel kind of bad sending back the Asus - it was rock solid and super fast but I just hated the GUI. The Linksys GUI is so much better, at least in my eyes.

If it was me, I can learn to love something that's rock solid and super fast just for its functionality. The user interface is just a tool that I'd get used to *smile*.

But that's me.

Yeah, unfortunately my OCD mind doesn't work that way. Too many features = cluttered mess = endless desire to tweak.

I just need something that works. :D

You know, the WRT1900AC here reboots within a day pretty much. Yesterday got very close to 24 hours uptime before rebooting, today about 14 hours. Just looked at the uptime on the status page, 12 minutes, which means that it just rebooted 12 minutes ago (about the time that I switched from using a wired LAN port to wireless-ac adapter, now that I think about it). Wouldn't have known that it rebooted, except for the uptime reset on the status page.

Anyways, I wish you more luck with yours. Haven't made it to 48 hours uptime yet here.

Interesting. I noticed that my sysinfo page indicated mine had rebooted this afternoon as well.

What FW version are you running?

1.1.7.160582...I think it's the latest.

I just got one of these from eBay for $50 (not working) lol so far I like it. In my 1800sq foot house, it performs as well as my rt-ac68u. No reboots or anything, going on close to 24 hours. Full 30/3 speed everywhere.

In a smaller space, I'm sure it will work great. I just needed that little bit of extra range, which I'm getting out of the WRT1900AC.

The only other thing I would suggest is making sure you put some rubber feet on it to get some space underneath and also put a small fan on it if you can.

It can get REALLY hot.

I do have rubber feet under it. I probably won't keep it as I have the asus. I'll try to sell it.
