Has Asus released any routers that have surpassed the RT-N66U yet?

I'm a big fan of the RT-N66U, although every time I recommended one to a client, I had to stress test the routers from home by letting my neighbor's kids latch onto the network to test concurrent user performance, and also with 24/7 torrenting for a week to make sure that I didn't get one of the many lemons that they ship out.

But it's been a couple of years now, right? Has Asus released any models that are champion performers like the RT-N66U or is it still the mainstay?

Thanks,

jcy

i have tried several routers and have found that the rt-n66u to be the best of them all, i do not have any ac wifi enabled devices so have not tried the ac66u, unless you have ac devices it is not worth upgrading to the ac66u, the rt-n66u still gets very good reviews and i agree with that, however the choice ultimately has to be yours

I have an RT-N66U too and love it.

However, the customers routers I use like the newer RT-AC56U and even the RT-AC66U are easily above router I have. Especially in the 5GHz band, 2x better or more (comparing distance and throughput vs. the RT-N66U) and the 2.4GHz band is at least equal, if not also slightly stronger.

As soon as I have the funds and the time (together!) to test an RT-AC68U for myself (the 'better' AC56U), I am sure I'll find that the RT-N66U will be replaced in a blink of an eye.

When any product gets to be 2+ years old, it is no longer a mainstay. When it is also only ~$20-$40 less than the RT-AC68U, I think it is time to take it's throne away.

I'm waiting until I test it first. But what's stopping you testing it now? :)

I have a RT-N66U and RT-N66W and love them both. But with the new AC87U and AC53U on the horizon I may be looking to upgrade when those launch.
