Have to manually power down after rebooting?

on 56_2, RT-AC68U. I set the thing to automatically reboot last sunday, every day, at 2 am (I think). However, every day this week I've woken up to no internet connection (not just no outside access, but I can't even connect to the router). I have to manually power the unit off then back on to get it working again. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Does the same thing happen if you perform reboot through the UI?

I guess just to keep the thing "fresh". I've had routers before that if you didn't reboot them they'd "clog" up and have to be rebooted.

Many thanks for that; I also have an RT-AC68U, and in the 18 months or so I've had it, I've never had to reboot it (other than firmware upgrades) and it couldn't be more reliable. So maybe it's worth letting the router run continuously and seeing whether or not it really needs a reboot. And if you find it does, then I'm sure you'll want to get to nub of the problem, which might be unrelated to the router (eg ISP/modem related?), rather than deal with the symptoms of a dodgy auto-reboot, though I'm as intigued as you are as to why the reboot isn't working properly.

Hi. My 3200 is same. After a few days or, if I'm lucky, weeks the router will stop functioning properly. Once that happens, very commonly a hard power cycle is required. I tried setting it to do auto reboot a little over a week ago; the problem frequency went to failing every single day, about 12 hrs after reboot. Finally even manual reboot couldn't get my internet back. So auto reboot made it worse, or at least didn't make it any better. It's possible that some phenomenon that involves my other devices are in play because I had to power cycle access point also. I went back to just leaving the router run normally and power cycling when it crashes. My problems after auto reboot were typically WiFi failures, just fyi.

Can one eliminate the modem as the cause of this type of behaviour by rebooting the modem alone, or is it essential to reboot the router if rebooting a modem?

I have this issue on my RT-AC68U running 378.56_2. I was troubleshooting a VOIP issue (solved now!) and had to do manual reboots through the UI several times for a week until I resolved the issue, almost without fail the device failed to come back online and I had to yank the power cable to get it back up again.
