I am QNAP-user and active writer in corresponding German-speaking forums. I own several ARM- and Intel machines of this manufacturer.

In particular I like this site because of the high-informative and standardised NAS-reviews!

You should make your own router cloud, maybe run some applications on them. No more conventional setups .

The RT-AC88U (live/production) and RT-AC87U (spare/standby next to it) are in another room.

Do you also use them as servers? You could have your own cloud made from routers and internet connected to all routers directly and have cloud routing. Who knows you could be the first to invent a reliable mesh networking for the homes .

They're all turned off and unplugged (I only ran two Ethernet wires from the switch to them). I plug them and turn them on as needed.

Does ASUS give them to you or do you have to go out and buy them?

The RT-N66U (my first), I bought. The others were provided by Asus (or other manufacturers for the non-Asus ones I've had these past few years).

EDIT: the RT-N16 (currently in a drawer) I also bought myself, after the user-donated RT-N16 died.
