New Around Here
RT-N66U, Operation Mode:Wireless router, Firmware:378.55

Hi, I was particularly interested in the Merlin firmware because of its NFS export of USB disc.
When trying to apply changes to the NFS exports (or the DLNA settings also) it gets stuck in
the 'applying settings...' screen with the spinning dots, and never completes.

If I reload the page, it is fine but the new settings were not applied.
I have not reset to factory defaults since loading Merlin over the stock Asus firmware,
because all the settings seemed to carry over OK. Perhaps I need to do that?

Is this a known problem? I have ssh access so can read/write any config or log files,
if I knew where to look for them (I'm generally familiar with linux but the details of
all these network services is beyond my expertise).

Many thanks,
Paul

Yes, best to reset to factory defaults and setup the router manually.

So is it just those 2 settings it gets stuck on? If you temporarily change some other trivial setting - just for this exercise - does it still get stuck or is it limited to those 2? Did you try using a different browser, just in case it's something daft caused by the browser?

But I have to endorse Zirescu's advice to restore to factory default. I'm in favour of that over hours of head scratching, but of course it won't fix any external problems such as wireless interference etc. and you get that warm feeling similar to a Windows fresh installation; it also reacquaints you with the settings pages and makes you question individual settings.

Doh! It was the browser! I should have thought of that as it's happened before.
It works in Chome but not in Opera. I think the reason I've only seen it fail on those
two settings is that those take some time to apply, and do the 20%..40%..60%..80% thing
whereas most other settings are quick. It did the spinning dots at me but did not display the
% update. Some Java thing? Might be something else.

Thanks forum people for the quick and helpful replies. I shall do a factory reset at some point too!
Now I just hope I don't need to setup openvpn any time soon.

Cheers, Paul

That's what the forum's for: it allows the uninitiated, like me, to ask an innocent question that permits a subconscious thought to make its way to the surface. Two heads better than one etc. Pleased you sorted it and were kind enough to let us know.
