Help re: Alexa's on router can't see Alexa's on AP?

I just installed a TP-Link EAP225 V3 access point up in my loft that's ethernet connected back through a PoE switch & sourced to an Asus RT-68U router.

This AP serves the upstairs while the router serves the downstairs wirelessly & of course everywhere else via the ethernet switch. There are 2 Alexa's (Amazon Echo's) upstairs connected to the AP vs. 2 downstairs connected to the router.

When I tried to set up multi-room music play with all the Alexa's - the 2 downstairs cannot see the 2 upstairs - thereby I cannot do whole house music.

The 2 set are on different SSID's but I thought if they are being served through the same router that they would automatically be able to see each other on the network.

I guess I am mistaken - so is there any setting I can do @ the router or on the AP to get these 2 pairs to see each other?

Put everything on a single SSID - might work better there - it's all one WLAN and LAN on the IP space...

Can I set up the AP with a same SSID as one on the router?
will that cause issues?

As long as the credentials are the same (e.g. the WPA2 passphrase), it should work well - that's the intent of the IEEE folks that created 802.11

one more question:

I was under the impression that once I connected the AP to a switch that is connected to the LAN port on my router - things should have been automatic.

Anyhow: So What I think may be happening is:

1) The AP was set for DHCP
2) I changed it to AP IP address to Static

The AP controller app needed the following changes:
IP Setting = Static
IP address = use one that was originally assigned to the AP out of the box from the router's DHCP
IP mask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway for the static address = same as Router
DNS = Same as router
Alternate DNS = not needed.

Is that right?

So after doing above - no degradation of performance elsewhere but alas still NO multi-room audio pairing amongst my 2 pair of Echo's.
