Help setting QoS for my fiber (RT-AC68U)

Hi guys,

I have the Mitrastar HGU company router with the VLAN 6 in Bridged mode to my Asus AC68U.
Connection is 600/600 fiber.

My AC68U have latest Merlin release.

I'm trying to set up Adaptive QoS to have the best results.

Here are the test results with only the company router:

I don't know why speed is worse with QoS set to 600.

What do you think?

Your router is not powerful enough to process a 600/600 up/down connection via QoS.

The good news is that I don't think you need QoS at all with those speeds anyway.

So, the results with bad Bufferbload in dslreports with QoS off doesn't matter?

And...what router do you recommend actually for a 600/600 fiber connection? It’s AX88U a good option?

dslreports has been mis-reporting results for a while now. Probably worse with possibly more users of the service now.

The RT-AX88U is a top choice for an RMerlin powered Asus router, and the RT-AC86U is a great second choice too with the RT-AX58U a possible contender to push out the 'AC86U from second place with actual testing in your own environment.

But the router you have now is able to handle 600/600 Fibre. Just not with it's hardware acceleration turned off.

Lots of alternatives, but what does your usage indicate? Are you feeling the internet lag in your normal use?

What is prompting you to think you need to have QoS enabled? Something you read about on the 'net, or, is there a specific issue you would like to resolve?

How many client devices are connected and active at any given time? How many of those are critical for you? How many are using/demand extraordinary throughput and/or low latencies?

I don't put too much stock in speed tests, except to ensure that paid for ISP plans are being met.

You may want to try a quick and dirty test here; www.fast.com. More than enough information if your network is otherwise working well.

I didn’t noticed anything wrong in my net. Actually I pay for 600/600 and I get around 620/620.

I’m trying the QoS thing after seeing some videos explaining how to setup it for a better connection.

Normally there are about 3 LAN connections (PC, Smart TV 4K and SAT Deco) and between 4 and 6 WiFi connections (2 iPhones, 2 Apple Watches, 1 iPad, MacBook...).

I don’t play online games and don’t have PS4 or similar. Only online “game” I use is Flight Simulation, and lately I rarely do it.

So, for now, better to have the QoS off, right? And maybe keeping my 68U that works really good after maybe 6-7 years of use.

Sounds like you have it made in the shade! Stay with the trusty RT-AC68U and when you do upgrade, it will be an even bigger jump than to even the current king, RT-AX88U.

If you have a connection from 300Mbits/s and up, on RT-AC68U you must disable QoS, bandwidth monitror, guest wifi network, and on Lan Switch control -Jumbo frames, Spanning-Tree Protocol all of this must be DISABLED, ONLY NAT Acceleration on AUTO, so if you done all of this you should get Hardware acceleration WAN to LAN enabled (CTF (Cut Through Forwarding) and FA (Flow Acceleration) accelerator are enabled.) And router should handel ~800Mbits easly
