Help with Gigabit

Is It Possible to build a Gigabit Network with a non Gigabit Router If I connect my Buffalo G Router to a Gigabit switch. Then run all other Gigabit connections off the switch (NAS & NIC's). Will this setup allow me to run a Gigabit Network? Or should I buy a Gigabit Router?

Absolutely. No need for a Gigabit router. Only traffic going to the router/internet will be limited to 100MBps. Host to Host traffic will move along at Gigabit speeds, as switches forward traffic on a host to host basis.

Make sure you use DD-WRT better results out of the buffalo turbo G routers

I thought it was more difficult to do with Buffalo routers. I don't want to make a brick, seeing I cant just go to Circuit City to get another. Any tips would be appreciated.

I'm kind of 'if it aint broke dont fix it' kind of person, especially when it comes to firmware of any type. I say dont bother unless there's something substantial you're looking to get out of the firmware. Sure, the open-sourced firmware distros open up the routers to a ton of capabilities, but there's an arguement if you're never going to use them... But I haven't tried or used DDWRT or Tomato in a couple years so I'm not the best person to comment on their capabilities.

Buffalo is working fine. Think I'll leave it be; until I eventually replace it and it can be used for experimenting. Thanks to all that helped!
