Help with Static IP for WNDR3400 and FIOS ActionTec Router

clark153

New Around Here
Just bought a Netgear WNDR3400.

I want to use it off my Verizon FIOS ActionTec Router.

I have it plugged into a port off my ActionTec and generally things are working well. I need to configure the WNDR3400 to a specific IP address as currently it is the default settings and I am getting some duplicate IP address issues.

I have found the section in the configuration for the WNDR3400 but I am not super skilled in this area and don't know the proper steps.

I want to make the WNDR3400 a static IP of 192.168.1.200 (this is outside the range that the ActionTec is using).

I think I need to find the gateway address on the ActionTec but do not know what to look for and I am not sure about the subnet mask to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you trying to use the WNDR3400 as a router or as a wireless access point?

As a wired and wireless access point. Current the router is connected to the ActionTec via one of the WNDR3400 LAN ports.

Thanks

Thanks!

Quick question. The WNDR3400 wants a Default Gateway IP address. Is that something that I would get from FIOS, or is it something that I can get from the ActionTec router?

Thanks again.

That is only needed if you are using the router as a router. When using as an AP, it doesn't matter. Just the IP so that you can reach it for admin.

Got it working just right. Thanks for your help.

At first I was looking at the NetGear basic setup screen, then noticed LAN setup under advanced and found all the fields that you described in the how to.

Again, thanks for being patient with a network newbie.
