So I have retired my 2 node XT8 setup in favor of Google Fiber's Actiontec branded Wifi-6E router/extender setup.
The Google router provides better overall coverage for me and also opens up the 6ghz network for me to use. Speeds are as good or better than when I was on Asus.
One thing the Google Router can't do is allow me to add a USB stick as a media device. I have a 256GB usb on my ASUS that I use to stream via VLC and it had been working great.
What steps should I take to continue to use my XT8 just for that purpose without interfering with me Google router?
Here's what I've done - and just want advice about what else should be done to make the ASUS as dumb as possible but still share out the USB.
I set the XT8 to AP mode. I turn off the Radio's on all 3 band (2.4, 5-1 and 5-2) and just in case, made sure the SSID names didn't conflict with my Google Router.
When I connected the XT8 to my switch, it connected on a DHCP IP and allowed me to login just fine. The weird thing is that it seems to show all the IP address for the devices that are connected on my network where I expected it to just be another dumb device on my network, but one I could access via VLC to use the USB.
What am I doing wrong or is it fine like that?
