I haven't been completely satisfied with my RT-AC66U since I got it a couple of years back. One of the reasons were that it has been very hard figuring out sources of large amounts of traffic (I don't have physical access to all clients). When I stomped upon asuswrt-merlin I had to try it immediately, but unfortunately the per IP traffic monitor doesn't work now either. I have a USB stick plugged into the router and I am able to see it - and store files on it (for example via FTP). I have enabled all the options under Traffic Monitoring (from Tools -> Other settings). I do have the trailing slash, and it seems it even stored a .gz file on the USB stick. Still nothing when I choose "per device" and "real-time". It shows the display options, but that is all.

Any ideas?

It might help if you specify the firmware version of your router.
Not on the Asus net right now, but its the latest firmware from asuswrt-merlin website, as of today. Dated 6th of January I believe.

Oh, and also the router had the latest stable fw from Asus from before.

Are you implying that it used to work but has now stopped?

You should be able to see 2 files ending with .gz on the USB stick, rstats and cstats. If you don't see the cstats file you need to select "Create or reset IPTraffic data files".

FW is 380.64_1.

No, sorry, that was just a not so well thought through sentence. It was a way of saying: I was kind of expecting the function on the original firmware, and when I thought I finally found a solution it was not working there either.

I have tried two different directories, and I have only seen the cstats file so far.

This is the most current one:
-rwxrwxrwx 1 0 0 1143 Jan 07 19:57 tomato_cstats_50465d5dc3c8.gz

I selected to create/reset on both options.

I am not getting any info per IP and on the normal monitor I am only getting real-time, but that might just be because it has only been running for about 10 hours so far..?

On the Global page you should be able to see real-time and last 24 hours straight away. Likewise with per device/real-time.

Perhaps it's a browser issue? Can you try another browser and/or PC?

Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Is there anything unusual about your network setup? I presume you are running in "router" mode and not access point or bridge mode.

Edit: Oh, and double check on Tools>Sysinfo>Network. HW acceleration should be disabled.

I have tried Firefox on Win 10 and Safari on IOS 10, but can try another one tomorrow.

It is running in router mode, pppoe, dsl modem is in bridge mode. It has a public IP on the WAN side and private IPs/NAT for the LAN side. Other than that it runs QoS, with custom configuration, one guest wireless network and one private - both in both 2,4 and 5GHz. Normally 25-30 clients.

Any point in downgrading to an older fw version?

From sysinfo:
HW acceleration Disabled - incompatible with: IPTraffic, QoS

Is the downgrade procedure the same as for an upgrade/clean installation? Or do I have to flash the device with an older fw first?

There was an update to the 64 version just now, but it did not make any changes to the traffic monitor. Change log did not mention it either.

If I choose custom location and choose a path on the USB drive (tried in the root and in directories), only real-time traffic monitor (for the interfaces) work. Real-time per device and last 24 hours per interface looks like the attached files.

If I however choose RAM the 24 h per interface monitor starts to work. Per device still the same. Edit: Tried another time and it did not repeat, not working no matter what I choose now. But I had the 24 h daily work for a couple of times on RAM.

And the html source looks OK:

HTML:
<th>Display advanced filter options</th>
<td>
<input type="radio" name="_f_show_options" class="input" value="1" onclick="update_visibility();">Yes
<input type="radio" name="_f_show_options" class="input" checked value="0" onclick="update_visibility();">No
</td>
</tr>
<tr id="adv0">
<th>List of IPs to display (comma-separated):</th>
<td>
<input type="text" maxlength="512" class="input_32_table" name="_f_filter_ip" onKeyPress="return _validate_iplist(this,event);" onchange="update_filter();">
</td>
</tr>
<tr id="adv1">
<th>List of IPs to exclude (comma-separated):</th>
<td>
<input type="text" maxlength="512" class="input_32_table" name="_f_filter_ipe" onKeyPress="return _validate_iplist(this,event);" onchange="update_filter();">
</td>
</tr>
<tr id="adv2">
<th>Display hostnames</th>
<td>
<input type="radio" name="_f_show_hostnames" class="input" value="1" checked onclick="update_display('hostnames',1);">Yes
<input type="radio" name="_f_show_hostnames" class="input" value="0" onclick="update_display('hostnames',0);">No
</td>
</tr>
<tr id="adv3">
<th>Display IPs with no traffic</th>
<td>
<input type="radio" name="_f_show_zero" class="input" value="1" checked onclick="update_display('zero',1);">Yes
<input type="radio" name="_f_show_zero" class="input" value="0" onclick="update_display('zero',0);">No
</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>

But it obviously does not show?

Tried now in IE as well.

Well.. tried another USB stick with no luck either. First with Fat32, but even after formatting it as ext3 in sh I have no luck with this thing. Unused 4GB stick.

After formatting and selecting as custom location it looks like this:

Code:
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             6 Jan  8 11:05 .___var.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .___var.txt.6
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             6 Jan  8 11:05 .__admin_var.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .__admin_var.txt.6
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             9 Jan  8 11:05 .__folder_list.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .__folder_list.txt.9
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             6 Jan  8 11:05 .__gr_var.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .__gr_var.txt.6
drwx------    2 admin    root         16384 Jan  8 11:04 lost+found

And then when selecting IPTraffic Yes and Yes on create/reset it looks like this:

Code:
drwxrwxrwx    3 admin    root          4096 Jan  8 11:10 .
drwxrwxrwx    3 admin    root            60 Jan  8 11:05 ..
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             6 Jan  8 11:05 .___var.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .___var.txt.6
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             6 Jan  8 11:05 .__admin_var.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .__admin_var.txt.6
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             9 Jan  8 11:05 .__folder_list.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .__folder_list.txt.9
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             6 Jan  8 11:05 .__gr_var.txt
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root             0 Jan  8 11:05 .__gr_var.txt.6
drwx------    2 admin    root         16384 Jan  8 11:04 lost+found
-rw-rw-rw-    1 admin    root            20 Jan  8 11:10 tomato_cstats_50465d5dc3c8.gz

Appreciate it, good tip, unfortunately I have tried both options several times. :-(

As far as I can see from the installation instructions downgrading is not supported, so guessing that means full flash procedure. Any chance it will help?

Are there any logs I could have a look at for further troubleshooting?

Did you read and try the suggestions in the thread I linked previously?

My problem didn't resolve when I upgraded the firmware..

Yes, I answered as well, but I managed to quote the wrong post.

This one was meant for you:
"Appreciate it, good tip, unfortunately I have tried both options several times. :-("

I am not considering upgrade, but considering downgrading. Only thing I can upgrade to is beta/unstable. Unfortunately it seems a lot more cumbersome to downgrade than to upgrade.

Downgraded to 380.63_2 and still same problem. I have now, three times, one on 64, and two on 63, managed to get the daily and 24h global traffic monitor working, but once I turn on IPTraffic it stops working and all I get are blank graphs, not even the XY-axis explanations (hours/bytes). Daily says "No data in table."

Even though it was just working before I turned on IPTraffic...

-rw-rw-rw- 1 admin root 20 Jan 14 15:58 tomato_cstats_50465d5dc3c8.gz
-rw-rw-rw- 1 admin root 61 Jan 14 15:56 tomato_rstats_50465d5dc3c8.gz

I cannot find anything of importance in any syslogs. Files are being created (at least sometimes), but never updated it seems.

Actually managed to get global monitor 24h/daily working a fourth time now, deleted the .gz files, set IPTraffic to off, changed db location, rebooted the router, and chose to reset/create data files and magically it managed to greate the rstats file again. So then I am back at starting point again. Any suggestions on getting IPTraffic up and running?

Goddamn this crap. As mentioned earlier I downgraded to 63_2, and just logging onto the router again now I was notified the admin site was occupied by 105.103.22.185. Rebooted through SSH, logged on, restored settings and upgraded to 64_2 again immediately, lets hope the hole he crawled through was patched in 64_2...
