New Around Here
Need help on my setup. It’s not working well so I appreciate any help in a better configuration.

Too many devices connected via WiFi so need to wire TVs, work computer and PS.
One CAT 6 Ethernet from Router, to switch, to two routers. Not connecting.

I got a similar setup to yours, minus the switch in the middle and one router. For some reason I never did look to deeply into why putting a switch between the router an node has been was an issue for me, no matter.

Could you plug the WAN port of one of the upstairs routers to the wire coming from the downstairs router? If only to make sure the cable is good, as you try to add the one upstairs router as a node from the downstairs router via the AiMesh tab on the downstairs router GUI. If you did any kind of setup on the upstairs router, you'll have to do a hard reset on it before you'll be able to add it as a Mesh node.

You can try to add it with the switch in the middle first, after hard resetting an upstairs router. Also the make sure your using the WAN port to connect the upstairs routers (nodes) to the switch, as well.

It depends on what the switch is. It has to pass VLANs used by AiMesh. Otherwise it won't work.

I have a tp-link TL-SG1005D. Do you know if this can pass the VLANs? Can’t find anything that specifically says this.

Thanks. I tested the wires and they are GTG. Would I be able to wire one of the routers upstairs to the other router upstairs?

Wasn't VLAN as in my case a layer 2 switch (different ones as well, likely something to do with SSDP), but I digress

If you were able to add one upstairs router as a node (connected via its WAN port) when directly connected to the downstairs router (LAN port)?
I'm guessing so based on the question.

If so, do the same on the other, connecting it to the LAN port of the upstairs router port of the ,now node, and the WAN port of the remaining upstairs router you want to make a node and follow the same process as before. On the downstairs router GUI, AIMESH tab, add node.

Again if youe configured to remaining router, make sure to do a hard reset on it first.

If successful, you'll see it on the AIMESH tab on the GUI as Router, node, node, vs. mine router node/node and hoprfully seeing a screen cap of your Router new AIMesh page ;)

Thanks. I just got rid of the switch and will see how it goes with just one router upstairs.

No idea. I would never invest in 4x XT9 units to begin with. This model is a chip shortage refresh of XT8 - the one with perhaps most issues mentioned around. In wired configuration tri-band is not needed, extra money for nothing. It's just locking your better 4-stream radio to upper 5GHz channels.

The switch doesn’t care about VLANs as far as I can tell from the product page

TP Link switch
SOFTWARE FEATURES
Transmission MethodStore and Forward
Advanced FunctionsGreen Technology
802.3x Flow Control
Back Pressure
802.1p/DSCP QoS

Wondering how it/if handles/passes LLDP?
