Hello all,

I received 2 routers thinking I was going to be able to use one of them as a repeater and be able to cover my whole house. Both of them came with the new firmware and I haven't been able to downgrade.

I'm trying to downgrade to RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_374.43_2-03j9527.trx but every time at 99% I get "Failed to connect to the wireless router. Check if the Router's power LED is blinking, which denotes that the router is in rescue mode." I tried to flash on 3 different computers (windows 8.1 and XP) is there anything else I can try or I'm out of luck?

TIA!

TMobile/Asus caught on that people were doing this, and the later shipped TM1900s have a new bootloader that prevents loading other than the TM1900 code.

To be able to do it, you first need to update the CFE code. You can find some directions starting at this post...

A friendly warning...if you do this, double check your work along the way, as a mistake in editing the CFE code can brick the router.

I was able to finally downgrade to 3.0.0.4.376_1703, but where can I find telenet/update CFE instructions? I checked online but couldn't find something specific for this router.

A lot of activity on this going on in the SlickDeals forum for the TM1900.....

you might try starting here

Here is the first guide (with more detailed links) from SD:

JSquare's guide seems to be more simple to follow but you'll need to dig around for the links on your own.

Thank a lot for the links! Now my whole house has wifi!!
The link between the two is pretty good.

I will check tomorrow if my gaming/VOIP programs work without problems.

again thanks a lot!

Been thinking about picking up one of these tmobile units.. but i keep reading about random issues people are having with the firmware flash from tmo to asus/merlin and upgrading etc.

Has there been a way to flash this TMobile router to AC68U 100%? Meaning it is exactly like a ac68U in every way possible? I don't want to run into any issues down the road updating firmware or using the features.

Thanks everyone!

So i have this model (tm-ac68u) with firmware version "3.0.0.4.376_3169". I attempted to get into rescue mode but i do not think i ever achieved it (i have read reports that it no longer flashes when in rescue but cannot tell if I am in the mode or not).

All that being said. I dont know if it is worth it or possible. I guess after getting to this point is it possible to get some foresight or direction as to what i should do next.

Also, I did attempt to telnet in by "enabling telnet" in the html and on my windows pc but would continuously get a communication error.

Thanks in Advance!
