How to determine which clients go through Open VPN tunnel

hey guys,

Is there a way to configure which clients go through and open VPN client tunnel other than selective routing? My goal is to be able to switch back and forth to/from the vpn tunnel directly from the client.

One thought I had was to be able to switch to a different wireless SSID that would route external traffic out the VPN tunnel. Just not sure if this is possible. Any other options?

That's what I do I use my wireless address to route my computer through the tunnel. Works real nice.

Sure!! You assign a static private ip in your range to your wifi client. Route that ip through the tunnel using policy rules. Every time you start your wifi feature on the client it will use that static address and will be routed through the tunnel. Oh and you should assign an ip that is not in your dhcp pool. Example: if your routers address is 192.168.1.1 then by default your pool is 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 that's a lot of ips. So narrow your dhcp pool and use the out of pool addresses for static ips.

Seems that installing a VPN client on your Wi-Fi device would do the trick! Just start it whenever you need your client connection to go over the VPN.

You will need a script to map a SSID to a VPN.

Thanks, I have done this in the past. I would set a few IP addresses outside DHCP scope and every time I want to use VPN would change client IP from DHCP to static and used one of the IPs defined in the selective routing table. It’s alittle cumbersome which is why I was looking for a more user friendly way.

I guess i could use vpn client on the device but not all devices have a vpn client to install. For instance Apple TV does not have a vpn client.

It would be nice to be able to set of an SSID that routes out to VPN tunnel. Hmm.. I guess I could buy a range extender and set that to a particular SSID and put the range extender IP in the selective rotini table? would that work? A cheap router may work as well.
