My options for internet are satellite or a hotspot. The satellite runs me about $100 a month and is averaging about 5Mbps download. I also have a Sprint hotspot where I get somewhere between 5Mbps to 30Mbps, for half of the cost of the satellite. Satellite internet is not worth it to me since I have a grandfathered in Sprint plan, using the native app. I have been using the WiFi hotspot off of Sprint, but unfortunately, this has ruined two of my batteries, and is basically limited to the room I am in. I have about a 2,000 square foot house and a basement. The basement has a switch that serves ethernet to every room in the house.

My goal was to stop using the Sprint WiFi hotspot, and rather use a USB tether which would connect to a wireless router, that could serve the majority of the house with WiFi (The signal from the phone is pretty weak), and also connect to my switch downstairs and provide wired internet access throughout the house. After doing a fair amount of research I ended up purchasing an Asus router, because the stock firmware is capable of handling a USB tether input. My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S6, but I also have an S7 that I could use to power my internet for my house. The problem was the router lost almost all of the signal. I would routinely get between 20-30Mbps on a speed test on the phone for download and then would connect my computer to the wireless router and would be lucky to get 0.5 Mbps. I tweaked a lot of settings according to information I could find and I ended up having no luck with this. The router I was using was the Asus RT-AC1900P.

Ultimately, my question for you guys is I am looking to get WiFi throughout my house (without needing to move the hotspot), and I would also like to have the current ethernet ports that are in each room be available. I am stuck running off a Sprint hotspot, trust me I wish I could get a wired in ISP. So, what is the best solution to turn my phone into a wired and wireless connection to serve my house (I would prefer to use the USB tether option over the WiFi hotspot option, because of me ruining two batteries so far). I would like to run the connection 24/7 as it powers some security cameras and other smart home devices. As far as cost goes I am certainly willing to spend money for a quality setup...

I appreciate the help.

Check in your region - if you're rural, you might get some benefit from AT&T agreements...

You have to ask for them specifically...

In my area - ATT Wireless Broadband - $60/month for 170GB - 10 bucks/gb up to a limit of $200/month - which is better that Hughes for Satellite - been there when sorting out my father's broadband out in the North Dakota countryside.

Voice - unlimited talk/domestic long distance and good international rates - I pay $20/month for voice service for a POTS converter as I'm still within CableCo coverage...
