I get *Reminder: Your system time has not been synchronized with a NTP server.

New Around Here
I have both a RT-N66U & RT-AC66U and both have this problem I am running stock factory current firmware (had been on the N66U - AC66U is replacing it) and when I go to Administration->System page I find in yellow the above message under the NTP Server information. I have tried changing the server pool from the global pool to northamerica pool and is now set to us.pool.ntp.org and still get the message. On the RT-AC66U I also get "* Remind: The System time zone is different from your locale setting." in the timezone settings part for the ntp config. This stays on whether I use manual or automatic day light savings setting. I also have a EA-N66 that I use as a repeator that gives me the same warning for ntp synchronization.

As a result fo this my logs all show the wrong date & time. I would like to get this working correctly. Is there something else I should be doing that I've missed or forgotten?

Could you not have the DNS configured correctly? Without a valid DNS there is no way to get an IP address from the pool. Do you have something blocking port 123 outbound?

Make sure the time zone is correct for your area and not 1 hour behind or ahead.

When I first reset or have the router at defaults the router sets my time zone to mountain time -700 instead of the correct pacific time zone -800 so I have to go in and manually set it to pacific -800.

Try this exactly: 0.us.pool.ntp.org

The only place I see for setting the DNS is under LAN->DHCP Server in the DNS, WINS section which I have set to 209.244.0.3 which I believe is one of Comcast's servers

Sorry meant to quote kanewolf

I live in the eastern time zone in USA same as NYC so I have it set to GMT-05:00 Eastern Time (US Canada)

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. I'm open to any further ideas. I am behind a Comcast/Xfinity Modem/Router/AP, which I have the WAN port of the ASUS plugged into one of that router's switch ports (port #1). My system is wired to port #1 of the ASUS, set to DHCP and NTP for time synchronization and seems to be fine. So what's the difference? NTP seems to be working on all devices wired or wireless except apparently the ASUS devices. I'm still missing something.

Try using the ping functionality of the router. Try to ping time.nist.gov from the router GUI. Does that work?

I have seen ntp sync failures if the drift is too high (greater than 1 hour). So for the initial sync, 1) enable telnet access 2) telnet to your router with admin
3) ntpclient -h pool.ntp.org -s

If 3) fails with errors like can't find host then you have a name resolution issue. This will forcibly set the time on the router after which the normal ntp should keep it sync'ed if you are using your WAN port for internet access.

I found this problem was finally resolved on my ac68u with the latest official firmware and rmerlin releases.

Sounds like your router (Asus) is being given a local IP address from the modem/router (Comcast). This configuration will also not work with DDNS, do you have DDNS set on your router? If you try to set it do you see an error (on the DDNS page) that complains about how it won't work with a local ip address?

You can call your cable company and they can change their modem/router so that it gives a WAN address instead of a local address to the ports (bridge mode). With your router having a WAN address, it will then be able to reach out and get the time, and work with DDNS, something it cannot do with a local (for example 192.168.xxx.xxx) address.
