Hey guys,

I was just given a Fortigate-60 for Free, however it seems you cannot setup most of the features of this device without a service contract with Fortinet.

Is this thing worth going through any of the trouble to bother making this work?

Or is this thing so old that I'm undermining my current security (router/gateway is a Tomato based RT-N66U).

That seems to be a decade old device.

I would junk it.

If it's a 60D, it's a pretty powerful device.

However, as you have discovered, you also need to have a service contract with Fortinet, which can in some cases EQUAL the price of the hardware alone.

Probably not worth it.

Probably not worth it.

Especially when you can build a pfSense box and run Snort/Suricata/pfblocker free of charge.

But that's a solid company, and someone out there might need that hardware to keep a failed one running. I'm sure you could sell it.
