Hello

Iam Portuguese, so my english is a little bad

I have Asus RT-AC66U

I have the last Asus Official Firmware installed

My Problem is: i have the port 53 TCP / UDP to open , i have portfoward these port, in sytem log(asus interface) these port is open.BUT WHEN i start the program that uses these port, the port 53 TCP open again (sytem log shows 2 port 53 TCP), so i have 2 port 53 TCP opened, and 1 port 53 UDP opened.

By the way i have UPNP enable and DMZ disabled.

How i fix these problem?please help.

I don't hear any problem

the the program not functioning properly
is there some other system issue this is causing

my first guess
port is opened
then closed
and reopened

so yeah 2 entries in system log
or maybe 2 processes are running on the port

not sure, I'm no network guru
maybe you should log into telnet/ssh and use netstat
to find out what ports are really open

Thanks

If i disable upnp there are no repeted ports,if i enable upnp repeted ports again.

Telnet/ssh-how?
Netstat-how?

Maybe there are some incompatibility between upnp and portforwarding, some bug or something.

By the way if i close the program, the repeted Port remains in sytem log, even after a refresh in system log, strange?!

i had some wierd issues with combining upnp and manual port forwarding rules in previous firmware updates, but merlin seems to have fixed it in his latest build, i recomdend trying the latest version of merlins firmware for the rt-ac66u, and if that doesnt work try the last version before that as the way upnp and port forwarding works will be slightly different with each version

Ah ok

I will try that.

But its very strange,i mean with portfoward, upnp shouldnt open the same port,i think.

I have tried merlin firmware and the problem remains. The only way to fix the problem is upnp disabled, otherwise with upnp enabled will have repeted ports

The problem lies with whichever device on your network is requesting to forward port 53 over UPnP. The router merely does what it's being asked to.

Also, since the UPnP daemon is separate from manual iptable configurations, it cannot know that there is already a manual forward in place.

Thanks

Is there a way to fix these "problem"? or there are no problem when we have duplicated ports?

You will have to determine what is trying to forward port 53, and address it there.

Having multiple forwards leading to different IPs will lead to unexpected results.

the ip is always the same, even when duplicated ports exist.

For example:the device is xbox 360:

3074 TCP / UDP
53 TCP / UDP
80 TCP
88 UDP

I portfoward all (same ip), but when i turn on xbox, the router(because upnp or something) open the port 3074 UDP(and not 53, my mistake) again, so i have duplicated 3074 udp port.

These happens on utorrent, and p2p programs, and devices, if i portfoward ports, upnp will open the same ports, so i have duplicated ports.

As a general rule, you either use UPnP, or you do a manual forward. If you know an application supports UPnP, then do not manually forward the ports - let UPnP do it for you.

Ah ok, is there a problem having duplicated ports, like my case?i mean all duplicated ports have the same ip, so i think there are no problem.

If they're the same IP then it's fine. Otherwise, manual port forwards will be processed first, and the UPnP forward will be ignored (assuming you are running 374.34).

there is a link of my problem, you will see same ip in duplicated ports.

now iam using official asus firmware(last for rt-ac66u), to test if the problem remains.but i like your firmware(i will install), by the way congratulations for your firmware.

But using official firmware, there are no problems, since duplicated ports have the same ip, right?

If the IPs are the same then yes, either firmware will be fine.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do by switching firmwares however. UPnPPort forward requests are coming from a device on your network, this has nothing to do with the firmware itself.

i was trying to see witch is the best for my network, and yours is the best, more things, more stability.

by the way thanks for the help.
