Just need clarification, I want to install this for the first time.
I'm on default asus firmware, 3.0.0.4.374_5656.

Installation instructions say

"If coming from a non-Asuswrt firmware (generally if your current firmware version does not start with a 3), you will have to do a factory default reset."

Does that mean I can just flash without factory reset? I would hate to lose all my settings.

You have to do a full reset after install.
Yes you will lose settings and have to enter them manually again.
