Hi There are annoying issue with iptv from BT. I get sound but there is ghosting of video displaying. I have the same settings as before the last update. The router is telling me it's updated to the latest firmware.

I tried updating to the latest bleeding edge software via the asus/servicing/firmware website. Downloaded 3.0.0.4.380 3265 but it was giving a error, no matter what way I tried to upload. It said that there was either a loss in transmission or something to do with the software. Guess it's to do with the new software requiring it to be signed. I see people saying that 3rd party software doesn't work.

I have confirmed it is the router by switching it out with a standard BT HH5 - (issue fixed)

Ps Since I've had the AC56U the 2.4GHz wireless network has been appalling. Few updates in over 6 months and none the better.

Normally a reboot of the router before upgrading the firmware should fix it. Otherwise reset before upgrading. In any case a reset after an upgrade is a must + inputting customs setting manually. Do not restore any previous backups of the settings (upgrade of firmware not supported on earlier build than 376)

A digital stream isn't going to "ghost" - it'll be pixelated, and odd, but not ghost like old-school analog - if you're using a Digital to Analog converter - that's another problem well outside of SNB..

Sorry for using the wrong terminology, as you quite rightly state it's pixelated. Thanks for pointing it out.

Would be a rather pointless endeavour trying to watch IPTV and converting it to analog.

It is losing packets somehow since the last update. As I've said I've confirmed this by using a standard BT HH5 which I detest. The settings remain the same and I was hoping to find a solution here as this site has a rather good community behind it. Would you have any ideas on the subject?

I've also seen via Twitter that Merlin has released signed software, that's compatible/updatable with the new rollout of requiring signed software. Kudos to Merlin. Will try his flavour if I can't rectify my issues with BT IPTV.

All good, mate

Like the UK, the US also has gone thru the Digital transition - and many of the D to A boxes were less than great... hence the "ghosting" comment...

If you're getting pixelated video - it's packet loss - so assuming that the BT end-point is good - then it's down to your Router/AP - and how's it's managing the packets.

Going back to the BT gear they dropped into your home - it's likely that you'll need to let them "own" the primary connection, and knowing this, put your router into their gear's DMZ

since you have both TV and Broadband - and the TV being IP based, this is likely your best choice - while I'm not certain, they might drop on you a single IP, and then VLAN out the TV vs. Broadband, there, you might need to consult with forums more familiar with how BT does things.

hope this helps... we don't get a lot of BT questions here...

@sfx2000 thanks for trying to help. Yeah most definitely packet loss. It was driving me up the wall. A good day and a half of messing around, doing a restore I finally stumbled on the answer.

Im now running Merlin 380.60 Beta 1

The key to getting it to work for me was to change a setting under WAN. I changed Enable VPN + DHCP Connection' to 'No'. Worked first time. I must of changed it somewhere along the line. Just as easy as that.

Settings remained the same for IPTV. Incase anyone stumbles on this, the settings are as follows. I'm using the following settings in LAN >
'IPTV: 'Select ISP Profile' = None
'Choose IPTV STB Port' = None
'Use DHCP routes' = Microsoft
'Enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy) = Enable
'Enable efficient multicast forwarding (IGMP Snooping) Enable
'UDB Proxy (Udpxy) = 0

Ps don't pick a IPTV STB port for BT IPTV
