Trying to get him to download Ookla app and test on ethernet connected computer.
Noooooo....not OoklaI agree but he is hung up on using that test. Trying to get him to download Ookla app and test on ethernet connected computer.
I think its fine, client based Speedtest seems to be the way to go, and these days we all have too much speed anyways, I'd even go as far and say: Nobody needs more than 300Mbps, everNoooooo....not Ookla
OpenSpeedTest is the one to use. I'd love to replace whatever in the router firmware with it, if @RMerlin is able and inclined
*Most home users, agreed. But there ARE use cases for higher (when people who move a buttload of data through their home for work purposes - I know a film/video editor, for instance, who works remotely most of the time, but goes in to the studio for the megabuck software/equipment when required)Nobody needs more than 300Mbps, ever
I agree, but I do buy 1GB even though I never come close to filling the pipe. The cost difference between 500mb service and this was so small. I do work from home supporting video editors at TV stations around the country and even with moving files, my son gaming on his PC and my wife streaming on Apple TV I never see more than 100mb/sec moving unless I send a really large video clip out.*Most home users, agreed. So I got the guy to run a speed test on his Mac instead of the one in his router. Guess what a full 940mb up and down. So you think that would satisfy him, nope he still insists his IPv6 must be messed up because the speed test in the router says he is only getting 500. Dude is hung up on that dang Asus speed test showing him what he "wants to see"Speed tests are kind of useless. OpenSpeedTest is showing 770/38 on my ISP line, Rogers 880/44, Bell 940/48... it doesn't really matter. Every time different number to different server with no impact on actual user experience whatsoever. So why bother?
