iPv6 issue, slow downloads... SOLVED

This built-in speed test is not very reliable and the result depends on what else is running on the router. I look at it as bloatware in Asuswrt. Since it arrived hundreds of new speedtest troubleshooting threads were created on SNB Forums for no good reason.

I agree but he is hung up on using that test. Trying to get him to download Ookla app and test on ethernet connected computer.

Yes, this is the proper way. Let them do whatever they want, their router. RT-AX56U is EoL entry-level device anyway.

I had the same thing but once I ran the Speedtest on my PC (via Ethernet cable connected to the router) it was all OK, the router built in Speedtest page showed around 600 Mpbs download / 920 Mbps upload after I had IPv6 enabled...

AI Overview: "Yes, it is generally recommended to enable IPv6 on your router if your internet service provider supports it..."

Also using the RT-AX86U 2.5G port as WAN port has never given me any issues.

Speed tests are kind of useless. OpenSpeedTest is showing 770/38 on my ISP line, Rogers 880/44, Bell 940/48... it doesn't really matter. Every time different number to different server with no impact on actual user experience whatsoever. So why bother?

Noooooo....not Ookla
OpenSpeedTest is the one to use. I'd love to replace whatever in the router firmware with it, if @RMerlin is able and inclined
I think its fine, client based Speedtest seems to be the way to go, and these days we all have too much speed anyways, I'd even go as far and say: Nobody needs more than 300Mbps, ever :-)
I also noticed that Chrome and Edge browser show slower speeds at times vs. Speedtest desktop Apps...

Let others enjoy speed test numbers, keep your excellent Qualcomm access points. Everyone happy...

*Most home users, agreed. But there ARE use cases for higher (when people who move a buttload of data through their home for work purposes - I know a film/video editor, for instance, who works remotely most of the time, but goes in to the studio for the megabuck software/equipment when required)

I agree, but I do buy 1GB even though I never come close to filling the pipe. The cost difference between 500mb service and this was so small. I do work from home supporting video editors at TV stations around the country and even with moving files, my son gaming on his PC and my wife streaming on Apple TV I never see more than 100mb/sec moving unless I send a really large video clip out.

former audio post dude here, brother...and I needed that gigabit pipe back in my day more often than I care to think about. These days, 120/10 is plenty for surfing and streaming

my provider just offered me 8GB symmetrical pipe. Way more than I could ever use, and I would have to buy all new networking gear just to use it.

So I got the guy to run a speed test on his Mac instead of the one in his router. Guess what a full 940mb up and down. So you think that would satisfy him, nope he still insists his IPv6 must be messed up because the speed test in the router says he is only getting 500. Dude is hung up on that dang Asus speed test showing him what he "wants to see"

Tell him the router is old and slow. Offer him GT-BE98 Pro replacement. When he sees the price will forget about the speed test.
