I have a samsung galaxy S8+ and a ac88u router(current fw)
my phone doesn't see the 5GHz wireless ,only the 2.4
but out of the blue it will connect to it and stay for hours
then lose the connection and not pick it up at at all
it doesn't show up when I scan for it and sometimes it pops up but
won't connect, when it does connect it will be fine without issue
how can I determine if this is a phone issue or a router issue ?
Thank you

(current fw)
I saw a couple posts that said to try lower channels on 5GHz. I think it was about a quirk with the current wireless driver this firmware is based on, but I can't remember where I saw it mentioned. Try the release thread : https://www.snbforums.com/threads/release-384-ng-asuswrt-merlin-384-5-is-now-available.46575/ , but it's somewhere on here. In the meantime, if it doesn't help, it can't hurt.

stealth edit: and then restart the phone (or phone wireless connection), if you make any changes

Do other devices see the 5GHz network?

Which other devices are connected and which 5G channel do you use? You can see the currently connected devices and used channel under System Log / Wireless Log / Channel (seperately for 2.4G and 5G).

Some (older?) devices have trouble with the higher 5G channels (above 100) so you should limit the channels to the lower band (36-64) - you can also play round with the channel bandwidth: start with 20 MHz and increase it to see what works or not.

I will lower the 5GHz channel and reboot
my wife's iphone and one other galaxy use 5GHz but when I can't connect
the router logs page see none of them
the normal channel the router uses is 161
Thank you

ok,I set the sGHz channel to 48 and left the bandwidth at 20/40/80
it stayed on 5GHz all day no drop outs so this is a major improvement
normally if the signal gets low or I leave the house and come back it will not see it or not reconnect
Thanks for the advice

update:
problem is solved ,2 days and no disconnects
with any 5GHz devices ,I was this close --> <-- from buy a different router
Thank you
