Why did you buy Asus again if you were not happy with your prior Asus router?

Because R7800 was out of stock, and the closest router that could match in specs and performance was the Asus AC86U.

Actually synology was an option too but I wanted to buy it from the retail store directly instead of waiting for the online orders.

Also, snb has ranked it higher than most routers.

And, this newer Asus is proving to be reliable so far.

I also have the DIR 882, but it's NAS performance is terrible and the UI is designed for non-technical people, with minimal features.
