Keep in mind with the recent Win10 update - SMB1 is removed - in previous Windows releases it was deprecated so it could be worked around...

Nope...
I am running Windows 10 Pro insider preview latest release. Control Panel, Turn Windows Features on or off, SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support is still there and you have the option to choose client, server or both. I enable just client, rebooted the PC and was able to connect to my Asus router shares.

Correcting myself - it's removed as a default, but you can add it back in via Windows Features - downside there is that if it's not used, it will remove itself after a period...
