One of the reasons I chose Asus router was for its VPN functionality.

But is the Asus VPN server secure?

Doesn't VPN give open access to the whole LAN side network and, as such, a security risk for hackers?

I am a photographer use a commercial cloud service to store files now… But having access to my NAS via the web would be an economical way to replace this.

Also, would "AICloud" work as a replacement solution with the files hosted on my NAS or is this simply another cloud service hosted on Asus's server like iCloud or BOX?

Thanks in advance

Considering OpenVPN can be secured using a 2048-bit encryption key, it is far more secure than any HTTP-based login page that your NAS or AiCloud would provide.

Just make sure you don't use PPTP, cause that one is considered to be cracked now due to various design flaws in the protocol.

Thank you very much indeed :)

I will follow your advice.

It just registered that you said don't use PPTP ..but that is the VPN server built into the AC68U ..

Is there an alternative server that I can install on the router or do I need to set up a separate network server to handle this?

Also, can I limit access to just one HDD or NAS rather than the whole LAN when a VPN connection is established?

OpenVPN has also been included in the RT-AC68U firmware for a few months now.

Thanks very much - Found it :)

I was watching an old Asus Youtube video on how to set up VPN .. silly me!
