Doing so could brick, possibly permanently, the router. In this case the AX3000 V2 has some different hardware (processor, 2.5GB port, etc.) and features than the the AX3000 version.

If you try and install an incompatible firmware through the "normal" methods it will be rejected. However, if you bypass these checks and try and write the firmware directly to the flash memory you could indeed end up with a brick.

The lower the price the lower the chances for 3rd party firmware support. Low-end devices are even more disposable hardware. Asus themselves may drop support quickly for the bunch of RT-AX58U V1/V2 variants they generated for marketing reasons. Some of them like GS-AX3000 had no firmware update for >8 months. @GNUton with his Asuswrt-Merlin fork is you best chance for this device. Post a question there, see what happens.

Different SoC. V2 using BCM6756 1.5GHz a7 quadcore whereas V1 is BCM6750 1.5GHz a7 tricore.

GNUton's fork on Asuswrt-Merlin supports TUF-AX3000 V2 (RT-AX58U V2, RT-AX3000 V2)
