I'd like to ask the NAS experts (you, tim specifically <3 since you'd most likely know), what is happening with my Lacie.
I own four of these beasts. Two 1TB ones and two 2TB ones. I have them because they're cheap for what they offer and I can't afford to get anything better/more reliable (yes I "know about" Lacie and in particular their external power supply issues - I've had to replace three by now).
There's this problem that occurs once every now and then. Like in the last 2 years, three times now. It's crazy.
Suddenly I can't access the NAS, (with any of the connection options - usb, ethernet direct to computer, ethernet through router), I can't turn it off via the normal off button, the whole thing doesn't respond. I have to unplug it to even turn if off. And then I give it a rest, plug it back in, and it straight away turns on to the same "no respond" state (which it shouldn't normally do, right?). Because it turns back on and powers up instead of the normal standby, is it some (internal) power supply issue?
In the past I have had to just leave it and then a month later, try it again and it'll just work. One time, it suddenly didn't work when bringing it between countries.
This is ridiculous since I use these disks for my data! Any insights into what is happening and what I could do to quickly restore access to my drive when this happens?
Many thanks <3. I will certainly contact lacie this time but want to pass it by this fine site first.
