Link Aggregation Routers

All,
I have been a long time Merlin user on my AC66U. I tried to configure Link Aggregation once using the wiki thread https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Link-Aggregation but it didn't work very well and I couldn't get it stable.

I would like to configure this as I am going to upgrade an older 8 port Netgear switch to a new 16 port router that has Aggregation support and would like to use it. Not that it would help with my internet connection, but it would for local system access.

Do any of the models that Merlin support have built-in Aggregation support? I know some other brands like Netgears go, but would rather stick with a Merlin supported router.

According to Asus' web site, it seems the 88U/AC-5300 have this built-in to the standard firmware: https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1016088/ Since I have a 66U, I don't see the bonding option under Switch Control and was this feature brought forward into Merlin for the routers as well?

Sorry for asking, but want to make sure what router I purchase will work for what I want to do and my 66U works perfectly now for everything except MIMO and Bonding.

My 88u works fine with link aggregation directly connected to the 2 gb ports on my qnap nas. Just have to select 802.3ad MAC simple mode on the qnap for it to work with the asus routers.

Just need to check that the netgear switch supports MAC mode for link aggregation. (I imagine it would, as it's the basic implementation of bonding)

Thanks. From my research it seems the 88U/3100 supports LAP aggregation, where the 5300 supports LACP aggregation. It would be nice if they spelled this out. It also seems like the Netgear G108T support LACP, but need to find a 16 port that does as well.
