New Around Here
Hi,

A question regarding a local development environment and web-access using hostnames.

Environment:

I have four Wordpress sites running in a Laragon wamp development environment on my Windows 10 laptop. I access them in my PC using four different hostnames e.g. xxxxxxxxxxx.utv.

The live environment is on a Synology DS713+ machine on the same local network.

I use an ASUS RT-AC68U ASUSWRT router with version 3.0.0.4.384_20648

Question:

I would like to run the applications via my iPhone (wifi) using hostnames to verify if they look alwright on a small screen. What I understand from searching the net this (local DNS) could be achieved in the ASUSWRT-Merlin version.

My laptop can be seen in the routers client list having ip 192.168.1.4.

So, if I upgrade to ASUSWRT-Merlin, is it possible to have four different hostnames (or more) pointing to that ip so that I can surf to the applications using my phone or iPad?

Is there a guide how to do it?

Thanks

Yes, just add them to the hosts.add file in /jffs/config

If you look at the Merlin wiki for jffs scripts and config should be clear

That's for Merlin only, correct?

You could edit /etc/hosts manually and restart dnsmasq in stock firmware, but it would not persist reboots.
