Logging ddos attacks

New Around Here
Hi all new to the form, sorry if been asked before?.

About a month ago my ip was ddos'ed due to the step son playing cod on Xbox any way to cut the story short I changed my ip and reported the known culprit to Microsoft ever since then iv been looking at ways to not only help protect my self against any future attacks but also test a ddos attack on my own ip so if a future attack dose ever happen will the logs show an attack from X ip

Using a asus RT-ac68u with merlin cfw

A VPN and a dynamic ip is your best choice, I depends also on how they fished for the ip in the first place, but any way of making you ip makes it harder but not impossible to ddos. Also Xbox one or 360?

I know of some ways to grab an ip but I would like to know is.. will the logs on the asus router log the attackers ip when/if an attack happens.
