Looking for Best Router that has 2.4Ghz 40Mhz

Hello,

I'm looking for a router which the best range and has 3x3 in 2.4Ghz and enabled 40Mhz (2.4 GHz, 3 stream, 40 MHz). Without some software automatically disabling it when it senses something.

I live a little out of the city so my 2.4 and 5ghz is fairly clean. I have a large house and the 5Ghz just doesn't have the range so I need to stick with the 2.4Ghz.

I recently bought the TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750 for 100$. It works perfectly and I get between 280Mbps to 450Mbps depending where I'm in the house BUT it doesn't play nice with the Macbook Pro because it doesn't work well with Broadcom chipset. After about a month of playing with TP-Link support I give up. Time to change it.

So what Router do you recommend? under 150$

Opinion: You'll likely not be satisfied with any 40MHz modes in 2.4GHz, even in semi-rural. You need to be near line of sight of the WiFi access device (router?) to get any real net speeds a lot better than in 20MHz mode.

Curios: What is the need for hundreds of mbps (link rate, IP rate is 60% of link rate) ? Normally, sustained high rates like that demand wired connections, and are for frequent transfer of a small number of very large files.

Daily I do a backup of my laptop on a network drive. The network drive is connected via Ethernet to the router.

I know when i did it, it was well worth it. I'll make you a few tests and report back.
 
I downloaded LAN Speed Test and did some tests.

All I did was go into the router and switch the 2.4Ghz 20Mhz or 40Mhz and tested it in the living room about 3 Meters (10ft) from the Router and from the office which is about 15 Meters (50ft) away

53.1/78.3 450Megs 3M (10ft) 40Mhz
49.5/71.3 217Mhz 3M (10ft) 20Mhz
40Mhz Gain 7%/10%

47.5/54.3 240Megs 15M (50ft) 40Mhz
43.1/37.9 144Megs 15M (50ft) 40Mhz
40Mhz Gain 9%/43%


The upload is where the 40Mhz shines and that's what I need for backup.

what's your speed for 802.11ac?

I really was NOT impressed with AC.
I bought a D-Link DWA-182 and at 10ft it connected at 866Mbps and I got really good speeds around 80/80 BUT at 50ft in the office.... I got terrrrrrrible speeds like 175Mbps connection with 20/30 and it varied everytime I did a test. Not sure if it was the router or the dlink usb card but i won't go AC.

Personally 5Ghz just doesn't work for me, my house is to big and even with the Archer C7 5Ghz antennas the range sucks compared to 2.4Ghz.
 
Large house: you probably need 1 or 2 access points to improve coverage and speeds.

I LOVE the TP-Link Archer C7. As you can see the range and speed are great. My only issue is it doesn't play nice with Broadcom Chipset like my Brothers Macbook Pro.

I attatched my Amped ACA1's PRTG performance graph: Note: I have an Amped RTA15 802.11ac router.
Test environment:

Specs of Building: This is going through about 32 ft through 2 walls, a solid all-wood dresser, and a chimney. The room has plaster walls in some places.

Specs of server (my machine in the same room as the RTA15): Intel i5 3570K/16GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 RAM/Nvidia Geforce 650Ti/Samsung 840 120GB SSD/Windows Server 2012 Standard/Realtek GBE NIC


Specs of client (remote machine in other room): AMD Phenom 9650/4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 RAM/Nvidia Geforce 650Ti/Samsung 840 120GB SSD/Windows Server 2012 Standard/Amped Wireless ACA1 USB WLAN connection:USB3 via a PCI-Express addon card.

I don't want to do Wireless AC till it's 3x3 streams.
Maybe I'll go for a ASUS AC66
