New Around Here
I've been using my RT-N66U for the last 5 months using both wireless and wired ports throughout the house.

3 of the wired ports go directly to wired outlets and 1 to an 8 port switch which forwards on to more wired outlets.

Everything has been working fine until this morning when I woke up to find none of the wired ports were working. The lights on the router for the 4 ports were also not lit up/flashing but the router was working fine over the wireless connection.

Last night there was a brief thunderstorm but nothing severe. Is it possible that this has caused the loss of the wired connections? If so, is my router permanently damaged and if not what can I do to restore the ports to working order.

I have rebooted the router, switched it off, left it 10 minutes and switched it back on again, but still no joy with the wired ports.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your ports were damaged. Just to be sure, unplug everything except for the WAN, and one single computer plugged to one of the ports (unplug the uplink to your switch as well). Try rebooting the router in this setup and see if it helps. If it works correctly, then the issue could be with the switch on the uplink.

Otherwise, looks like HW damage - the router will have to be replaced.

Hi RMerlin,

Thanks for your valuable advice. I followed it to the letter and found that 2 of the router's ports (3 and 4) were still working with the laptop attached directly. Ports 1 and 2 were dead.

It also looks like the switch is dead as I cannot get anything to connect using any of the switch's ports when it's connected to either of the 2 working ports on the router, but there is still some hope of using the router with a new switch.

Again thanks for your help and advice.
