Recently bought the Asus RT-AC87R and having issues port forwarding UDP ports 5060 and 5070 for my MJ device. I've forwarded the ports, checked the logs and see that the two ports are showing as ACCEPT vs DROP which leads me to believe that the ports should be OPEN. When I use online tools to portscan my external IP, it keeps telling me the two ports are closed and the call quality leads me to believe they are.

I've also tried putting the device in the DMZ with the same end result. I've tried disabling the internal firewall on the router and still no change.

Any ideas?
 
Is it possible to plug the MagicJack direct into your modem, bypassing the router?

I'm wondering if your ISP is blocking some ports, or if your modem has a built-in firewall that has not been disabled.
 
I have a MagicJack plugged into a router which is double NATed behind another router. Neither one of my routers has any port forwards for 5060 or 5070 and my MagicJack works fine. I have used MagicJacks for seven plus years and they have have always been plug and play. Never had to make any network adjustments with any of the routers I have used or for any of the three ISPs I have had during that period. I don't put the MagicJack in the DMZ nor do I have UPNP enabled.

Before worrying about your port forwards have you run any specialized speed tests which check your Internet connection for the suitability VOIP phone connections?

Vonage had a test just for this purpose on their web site. If you can't find it there just Google what you want and I'm sure you will come up with a link.

If the MagicJack is working but the quality isn't what you want I don't think port forwards are your problem.
 
I simply added the forwards as per the MagicJack's website's instructions. I never did try it without the forwards to see what happens. The device seems to be working better from the initial install, may have been having an off day with the ISP. I have ran tests and they all say my connection is suitable for VoIP. I consider this issue closed, thanks for the input.
