maintaining local connection and openvpn together

im using rt-ac87u

now i am using an openvpn client to route all traffic on the router through a vpn tunnel and I have a route policy set to block all clients to internet if vpn tunnel stops.

now here is the problem
i use a local media streaming server at home

so my pc
192.168.1.2 is media server

and my tv or mobile
192.168.1.3 is the device that wants to stream the media directly from PC (192.168.1.2)

The problem is this does not work because of the VPN setup on the router.

How do I maintain the VPN while also making local connections like this possible?

The VPN is not your problem (unless perhaps you have a DNS issue). Both devices are on the same subnet so they communicate directly via the router's switch ports, there is no routing involved and they don't touch the VPN.

I forgot to mention. The streaming device (which should stream from the home computer that runs the media server) is mobile and connected over the 5ghz wireless. what could be the issue?

Are you saying that when you turn off the VPN everything works OK, but it doesn't when you turn the VPN back on?

This is what happens

When I restart the media server on my home computer, my mobile and other wirelessly linked devices that are connected to that streaming server are able to access media on it.

5 minutes later, it stops and I have to reboot media server again.

I also know this is not issue with media server because i have it running in another environment without any issues.

I just want to know that if there are devices connected to the router wirelessly that are being tunneled through the VPN too, is it still possible to use the router's WAN on that device?

:confused:Do you really mean that? Use the WAN in what way?

Or did you mean to say "... is it still possible to access devices on the router's LAN"? If so, then the answer should be "yes". But to double-check just turn off the VPN and see if you still have the problem.

RT-AC87U. Are you using port 1? If so, try a different one. I had similar problems streaming.

Also try enabling IGMP Proxy on the Wireless Professional tabs + LAN/Switch Control. I had a Pi (wired) that refused to show up reliably for WiFi devices when relying on UPnP sharing.
