New Around Here
Hi

Just got the 56u and everything else is working well apart from installing media server and download master. Tried deleting asus folder on hard disk and rerunning but same problem. Tried updating to last firmware as well.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Unfortunately , it's asus server thats having issues....Hopefully someone over there will wake up and fix it.....It's been about 5 days or so that it has been that way...

I just realized that the problem may be they are all on Chinese New Years holiday.

lol....
If someone would rar their "asusware" folder , that already has media server installed, and upload it , we could just apply the folder to our usb....
Unfortunately , nobody seems to be willing.....
If someone would, that would be great!
Thanks to whoever might take the time!

If you checked the asusvipforum, someone did do that. I tried it and it didn't work. It installs it, but I cannot access the media server configuration page and the poster also experienced the same problem later.

Phoned ASUS support today and the guy said that they would be told if the servers in Taiwan were down. Asked me to try a reset which I have now done but it hasn't fixed the problem.

He said I should send the unit back if that didn;t work. Doesn't make sense as the person who owned this unit previously had media server working. Also if the servers were down wouldn't the download be stuck at 0%?

Does media server actually provide much benefit? If I can navigate to the share and play media files directly is there a need for media server?

here is a fix for the issue

1 try installing download master or media server on your router, it will fail but it will create an asusware folder on your usb device.
2. download this file
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13605628/optware.asus
and copy it to usb driver:\asusware\lib\ipkg\lists\optware.asus via samba (network share)
or you feel a bit geek telnet to your router - you must have it enabled from advanced - administration
and paste this into the cli:
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13605628/optware.asus -O /opt/lib/ipkg/lists/optware.asus

3. reboot router.

after your router boots up, try to install again the media sever / download master. should work now. enjoy

@Baadnewz

When I click on the link you provided, it opens a web page instead of downloading a file. Is that what you intended?

Thanks that worked!!

Yes it opened a webpage but I just copied the contents to a file called optware.asus and then copied it over to the usb drive.

Hi baadnewz !

I tried this link, but i did not found any file to download ... just a page which describes several files ... but not the files. Any tip ?

Thanks !

you didn't found a file because the browser reads the file. either you copy the text from there into a file and save it as optware.asus either you do the telnet version and no headaches

sure if you've read 2 posts above yours you would had the answer already

Hi baddnewz,

The link "https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13605628/optware.asus" is no longer working. Is it possible to paste the content of that file into this forum?

Thanks.

none of these links seem to work. does someone have the files that I can copy over? thank for your help!

Works.

1.0.0.22 media server working with the files:

link to the folder that contains the 2 files: https://mega.co.nz/#F!iJE3CaCK!ioCVQUhJFiQQzNJku2pCGg

1) DELETE THE FOLDER AND ASUSWARE DOWNLOAD2
2) Download this file 1-configuration_file.zip
3) Copy all the contents of the zip file in the root of your hard drive (I've done with the ard drive connected to the router on writing explorer \ \ 182.168.1.1)
4) Download this file 2-asusware.tar.gz
5) unzip the file and the file Tar GZ and get the folder asusware
6) copy this folder in your hd as explained in point 3 do not overwrite existing files' PRESENT
7) Check that everything is working well in the configuration page of the media server.
8) RELAX!

This problem is back for AC68U Router for Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384.32799 (previous from latest version). DownloadMaster also has been removed from Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384_45149 (latest to date).

Edit: Correction, DownloadMaster is still accessible in the Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384_45149. But only through the browser by typing in the local web address of the router with the default port of 8081. The link to DownloadMaster disappeared in my router's USB Application page.

I was able to fix my router by "initializing" the software through Administration->Reset/Save/Upload Setting. Then slow reformatting my USB Flash Drive, resetting the Internet connection and the router, and resetting the router software, and finally reinstalling DownloadMaster when the option finally appeared.
