New Around Here
Hi

Firstly many thanks to Merlin for the excellent firmware for my Asus AC68U.

I have been having a couple of issues with this firmware though. I see the firmware has been updated this morning and will download and install this but on this current firmware I am having issues where the speed of Internet (download and upload) crawls to a snails pace every couple of days, with a reboot of the modem and router been required. Has anybody else encountered this problem?

When I first installed the Merlin firmware (which was fairly recently) I installed over the latest Asus firmware, I did not do a factory reset. I am wondering if this is necessary? or may improve things?

Many thanks in anticipation for your comments, help and assistance.

Regards.

Matt

The first thing to troubleshoot is to do exactly what you are wondering about.
Also, there is a dedicated thread for each firmware release on this very board.

Matt, without knowing the many particulars of your situation, there are too many variables involved that may be affecting your situation. Not trying to be a killjoy or be unhelpful, there's just no quick answer, as you may have guessed. The wiki provides the best way forward and you'll find that almost anything you can imagine has already been posted; if not for the latest firmware build, most of the troubleshooting steps still apply. The answers are waiting if you work at finding them, since everyone has been where you are now, in the past.

As a guess only; if your router and the performance symptoms went wonky on you only after you updated the firmware, you can always try to perform a factory reset after you read and understand it may/may not always correct the problems you're experiencing. That's why it's better to read what everyone else has gone through. Use the Asus recovery tool to reinstall the firmware from scratch as well as all of your network settings. That's the best first step, and it might solve these issues. You'll gain the confidence you need as you go; we learn best when we learn it first-person, without someone saying 'push that button' or 'don't do' this or that. Many learn so much by lurking and reading, they have very few posts to show for it, neither a good nor bad thing. After you've done your research and followed the procedures, if you're still unable to move forward, try re-posting. Good luck.
