RMermin doesn't support MediaTek hardware routers. No chance for Asuswrt-Merlin firmware for this router. OpenWrt is available.

Is Google working with original firmware?

As I said before I would pick GL.iNet GL-MT6000 instead of Asus TUF-AX6000 if my goal was running OpenWrt on it. It already runs original firmware on top of OpenWrt and has better development and community support for vanilla OpenWrt. If you ask me - in your case better stay with stock Asuswrt, you have the device already, it was your choice to purchase this exact one. Asuswrt has good enough set of features for AIO home router.

What features does openwrt have that is better than the original firmware?

Open Source and a dedicated community... present company included - the MT6000 is a really nice device...

AX6000 is a filogic target of interest over in OpenWRT land..

GL.iNet GL-MT6000 - priced at just US$127.00 on Amazon 👍

Follow the AsusWRT code - it could be done... as Asus support this chipset along with others..

If one is chasing Mediatek - the MT6000 is the right choice - the RAM/FLASH config - 1GB DDR4 and 8GB eMMC makes sense... along with the 4*4:4 radio configs with DFS generally open...

Just saying - the MT6000 compared to my current primary - Syno RT6600ax - the MT6000 is actually in front on paper...
