Merlin on the RT-AC55U

New Around Here
Hello,

I recently acquired the Asus RT-AC55U and was interested in loading some modified firmware onto it to try and fix various issues I've been having. It is not supported by DD-WRT or currently the Merlin firmware.

I see there was a thread some time ago (link: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/any-plans-to-support-the-rt-ac55u.25889/) in which it was stated that there were no current plans to support it. I'm wondering, has anything changed?

The native firmware seems to have issues with multicasting. Devices on the network will only be advertised to each other for a while after a router reboot, after which point multicasting fails entirely. This makes the router incompatible with hardware like the Chromecast which relies heavily on multicasting.

I'm not sure what the development process is like for Merlin, but if there's any data I can provide remotely from the router to facilitate development, I'd be happy to do it.

If porting of Merlin for the RT-AC55U is out of the question, I'd be happy with some direction in fixing the issue that renders my Chromecasts useless :)

Thank you
Taylor

This router uses Mediatek controllers, and I only work with Broadcom. Completely different hardware architecture.

Ah, okay. You wouldn't happen to know what part of the software deals with multicasting, would you? And if so, are you aware of any common problems I might look for first?

No. It's one of the things that work completely differently based on the chipset providers, with Broadcom having EMF to help in multicast routing.
