MikroTik router?

The Mikrotik routers are hobbyist routers. I've never seen them in the SMMB space (where Fortinet, Sonicwall, and Cradlepoint dominate) or in the enterprise (where it's Cisco, Juniper, and not much else). I've been doing network consulting for 20 years and have never seen a Mikrotik router in the field.

The Days Inn in Bismark, ND - they had (and perhaps still have) a Routerboard WiFi network deployed - seemed ok...

It was a weird layout for a hospitality network - each AP had it's own SSID, and each one was running it's own NAT/DHCP, not centrally managed, which made things a real pain when moving about..

Knew something was afoot, as I was in a double-NAT - breaking out Wireshark and some other tools - basically what they did was DSL ingress line to a managed switch - the DSL was NAT/DHCP to the switch, and then backhauled ethernet to each AP, set up with NAT/DHCP there...

Crazy setup - these were older RouterBoards, 11b, so between the consumer grade DSL line and everything else... a really good example of how to NOT do a hotel internet/wireless deployment...

I suppose one cannot really complain - the price was right - FREE

sfx2000, free also includes some pain (for no charge) including some (usually small) benefits too. :)
