I'm struggling to attach more than 2 usb disks on Asus AC66, first with a usb hub to usb port 1 with 2 disks (disks A and B), that shows up fine. But 3rd usb disk (disk C) to usb port 2 (without hub) will not be seen.
Disconnecting usb port 1 2nd disk (B), usb port 2 usb disk (C) will become visible after reconnecting the cable. Reconnecting usb port 1 2nd disk (B), usb port 1 1st disk (A) disappears! In device terms, i'm left with /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, whereas /dev/sda disappeared taking Optware with it, which is not acceptable.
Even stranger is that when connecting the usb hub to port 2 and leave Optware disk (A) to port 1 all by itself, then i can have all 3 disks at the same time. But copy speeds between between disks on port 2 is horrible because they share the same slow usb 2 bus for read and write. And i need to do this exactly to copy a large amount of data...
lsusb sees all 3 usb devices, but blkid shows only 2. /dev has sda, sdb and sdc, but sda is really not there: fdisk: can't open '/dev/sda': No such device or address.
Was thinking about power draw issue but it cannot be, because the 2 hdd's on port 1 (A and B) are 2.5" pocket disks and work just fine together on same port, and disk on port 2 (C) is 3.5" with its own power supply.
In this case the obvious solution is to connect disk A to port 1, and B and C through hub to port 2. It works. But there's something really funny going on, why should it be so. With this precedent i don't think it's possible to connect a 4th usb disk anymore, although in theory it should be possible.
