Most tested and stable firmware?

I just want the most stable firmware for n66u.
Which one is it?

Since we all use our routers in different ways, it is impossible to declare a universal best.

If you were using the RT-N66U as an AP only and were running only the essentials I might say one of the older firmwares with less features.

If you were running as a router with all the AiCloud, NAS, samba, etc features enabled, I would say to choose the latest firmware because it would have the latest security fixes.

Only you know your particular needs. Do your own testing and see what works best. By default I would advise the latest release.

I personally have had very few problems with any of the firmwares I have tried, merlin or Asus. Most problems were caused by me.

Thanks, I'm trying the SDK5 version atm. The newer SDK6 (merlin / stock) have been giving me some WiFi problems. I agree with you that the older firmware will probably be better so if this SDK doesn't work, i'll keep going down. I could care less about features or bugs so long as my connection is stable 24/7

Do be cautious about security bugs. Although, as long as you have any vulnerable WAN ports firewalled, you should still be OK.

I think the only remotely exploitable bug was related to having AiCloud accessable via WAN.

...I'd recommend the fork of Merlin_:374.43 from john9527, here: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=18914

...most security fixes went into it, AFAIU and it is running stable since I employed the first version, from back in August.

I second this. The older sdk5 firmwares are full of security issues and should at this point be avoided. John's fork of Merlin's 374.43_2 is a rock solid firmware with the security issue fixes of the latest builds and with the N66U it has far better range then the new 376 builds that are capped at 80mw power output.
