So I recently changed ISP and now have access to 6 ipv4 addresses from a block of 8.

I've never had this before so was wondering how I make use of it, I want to give a separate external IP to my PS4 with no NAT and have the rest of my devices run through another IP or individual IPs.

I have more than 6 devices but am happy for the others to share external IP's but I cant work out if this is possible in Merlin? If not is it possible in any firmware (AC68U) or do I need better hardware?

The other option I'd be happy to try is to have 5 devices running external IP's plus a second AP running on the 6th to share to anything else.. would this be possible?

I have tried googling this but to no avail..

Thanks

Dave

Edit: I usually only have the PS4 connected via LAN the others are all wifi

You get an IP from your ISP when you connect a device direct to the internet, i.e. not via a router.

So, in the setup you requested, if you want your PS4 connected directly to the internet, add a switch before your router and connect the router and ps4 to the switch as well as your modem.

<removed the drawing since the forum removes all spaces and messes the drawing up>

your router is your shield for the internal network to not expose it directly to the internet.

If you do not care about shielding your internal network at all and have less then 6 devices, skip the switch and put your router in AP mode(Definately not recommended). All devices will be directly connected (and exposed) to the internet

Thanks for the repy, I would have to buy a switch which I dont mind doing but im concerned about QoS, if I do this am I going to be able to prioritize the ps4 packets at all?

Also I currently have the vmg1312 in bridge mode, could I use this to give out the external ips instead of a switch?
Thanks again

When you use a setup like this there is no qos for the ps4.

I do not know your vmg1312 but when it is in bridging modus I expect only the WAN port will be functional.
This will be easy to test by connecting the PS4 cable to one of the 4 lan ports on the vmg1312 and see if it gets an external ip.

theres the simple way of a switch or the controlled way. If it is a public IP and not LAN you can make quite a lot of use using the controlled way such as having a configurable router/firewall so that you can do dmz like stuff on 7 machines and still filter traffic. For example you could have 7 servers fully exposed but with the firewall filtering traffic and also blocking/enabling specific ports and hosts (such as who can access which ports before even authenticating).
