my 1 reason to buy (or not) RT-AC87

Just to add my 2 cents here - no matter how great this router is and how long will it take Asus to get the firmware "bug-free" - the only way I will be buying it - is if Merlin will provide his support for this model. I know he has mentioned that he has already an alpha version, but do we know for sure
what features from his firmware will be incorporated into the 87?
Eric - can you tell us, please. Or the other way around - anything that you know for sure - at this time - that you won't be able to do?
Thanks!

I have everything working, however I had to drop IPSec and L7 Filter support due to incompatibilities with the new QoS engine. I also re-added the original traffic monitoring pages which Asus removed from the AC87U.

As with any past routers, it will take time. Buy it now and enjoy the features that work while dealing with bugs. Or you can wait.

If Asus had a team of RMerlins working for them, then the initial products would be more polished during a release.

They should hire RMerlin, as they know he is making their crappy job right, but, in that case, he wouldn't have that much time for us, as they would be bothering him with so much work - in the end, RMerlin dont accept their job offer :P

I'm flattered, but you guys are exaggerating my contribution. For every single bug I fix, Asus fixes 10 more.

Being modest and humble is a good trait to some degree. But take credit for your work with out hesitation and you will gain respect.

At the end of the day, your constant interaction and support on the forums (customer service), out weighs the 1:10 ratio of bug fixes. The track record is clear as night and day, as most of us choose to use your firmware.
