I was reading the forums here and got several ideas about cooling my RT-AC87R, this is what I came up with. It cooled it down 44°

44C? That is an effective cooling solution, but curious how loud it is?

That's impressive! I always thought it was odd that neither Asus nor Linksys have vents in the TOP of their routers, but Netgear and most others do; the ones with vents for air flow in the tops of their routers seem to run considerably cooler than the others. I bet that's part of the reason it is so cool on yours with it upside down.

I'd be surprised if it's left running upside down. :)

The fans are what keep it cool, not the orientation.

They are running only at about 400 rpm so they're not that loud at all. If I maxed them out then they'd be loud enough to hear.

I do actually run my router upside down, not for cooling but for the signal. I have my network set up in the middle of the upstairs so I invert the router and it works out awesome because the whole house (two story) including the front and back yard gets perfect wifi signal everywhere.

Can you provide a link to the fans and comment on speed control (if any)? I am also interested in how the fans are attached to the device and any photos that clarify attachment. Thanks

You can try one fan to intake other to exhaust.. I've recieve best cooling performance in this configuration. Around 4-5 Celsius decrease for CPU.
