These are the performances for my DIY RAID-5 NAS:
Drives = 5 * Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB - 4Gb RAM - Intel Celeron Dual Core 2 Ghz, running Linux Ubuntu Server 9.04 with Samba as OS. One dedicated 150GB SATA-II disk for the OS.
Antec NSK6580 casing with 6 * 3.5 drive slots (max 9 with convertors 5.25 to 3.5), Intel DG965OT motherboard with 6 SATA ports.
Configured the NAS running a 5-disk Linux RAID-5 array (chunk-size 1024 kB, not sure if smaller chunk-size is faster?), leaving 4TB available disk space.
Reading 600Mb iso file from NAS:
Reading 4.3Gb iso file form NAS:
Writing 600Mb file to NAS:
