hi guys, well today i received my Asus RT-ac68u from Newegg.
so, my nat type is strict on both xbox360 and ps3, why??
i opened all ports and i have disabled firewall and i have tried DMZ
and i tried to close unpn, but nothing help, so how can i fix this :(?
i use Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.374_205.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by "NAT Type"...

I also have a PS3, where my kids are gaming like crazy, on all the major titles... I've had NO problem whatsoever. Call of Duty-Black Ops, GTA 5, etc...

I didn't have to do any special port forwarding either. I know that certain titles require certain ports, but I haven't done any special allowances either. I do have DHCP "disabled" on my rt-ac68u. I have a domain controller (windows server 2012), issuing IP addresses. But I'm not sure this makes a difference.

Now, there is something "funky" going on with port forwarding... It works, but you'll need to turn off "Hardware Acceleration". (Go To LAN>Switch Control>HW Acceleration) Try that, then report your results, as many people can help on this forum. FYI... I'm also using the same firmware xx.374_205

well the first thing i would do is make sure your ps3 is not assigned a static ip via the ps3, you want it on a static, but you want the router giving it that ip. as an example when i go to my xbox's network settings and manually assign an ip then upnp does not work properly.

then in the router settings under the lan section go to dchp server and manually assign your ps3 an ip.

next turn upnp on via the wan section

next make sure the enable port forwarding option under the virtual server/port forwarding tab in the wan section

make sure dmz is disabled.

now do a full reboot by manually turning the power off and unplugging it! leave it off for a full 30 seconds.

when you reboot, make sure you xbox is the first device connected to the network (an iphone or 2 shouldnt matter) as a pc connecting could use upnp to forward ports the ps3 might want. i also recommend only using 5GHz if you are using wifi as sometimes i have seen explainable nat issue on 2.4.

when you ps3 connects upnp should automatically forward the ports it needs, you can see what ports are forwarded to what ips in the port forwarding tab under system log section of the router, once an port is forwarded via upnp on these routers, that rule will stay set untill a full reboot or kernel reboot.

hopefully that helps

Upnp is flaky on the rt-ac68u. I have both the ps3 and xbox connected and noticed a few things

Upnp only worked once correctly with both devices connected to the LAN at once.. 3074 and 3075.

It also doesn't tend to work for the second device.. Eg. Was playing ps3... Turned off and went to play xbox and upnp wouldn't work for xbox when it was just working fine for ps3.

Upnp appears to stop after a period of time and you will see the connections as unreplied in the port connections tab

I was able to get my cod on open nat by I doing this... Took 4 or 5 attempts each time..

Make sure upnp is enabled....

Go to xbox .. Network settings... Test network
Open up admin for rt-ac68u and monitor port forwarding. Keep repeating the network test until you see port 3074 or 3075 forwarded to your Xbox.
(Refresh the port connections tab after every network test)

Start call of duty and notice you are now in open nat mode.

thank you so much dude :)

I've spent hours and hours trying to resolve the issue to get Port Forwarding to work with DDNS on the LAN (it did work from the Internet)... and indeed turning off "Hardware Acceleration" solved the issue. I've no clue how you came to this conclusion... but you clearly made my day! Cheers Mate!

BTW: Asus RT-AC68U on Firmware 3.0.0.4.374_205.

thank you for your time <3, i finally fix it:
first i disable port forwarding in wan section, then i enable Unpn in router,
then i manually a sign my xbox ip in the router (DHCP) in Lan section,
and the most important thing i make my xbox on automatic to find ip address.
thats it.

But the problem is it only made my nat open when i test my connection in xbox dashboard but is COD it still strict :(.

thanks guys for your help and time.

lol its because turning off hardware acceleration causes a full kernel reboot therefor erasing previously saved port forwarding settings,i explained this in my first post.

also glad you got it working almered ;) i use to have bad nat issues with my rt-ac66u but now i know how to deal with it

on that thing you could do is makesure your ip assigned to the xbox is withinthe dhcp range of the router, not outside it.

but thats really odd and doesnt make sense to me because i dont believe you cansee nat from test connection or dashboard page, use the port forwarding tab of the router to check what port is being forwarded to your xbox, if its 3074 you should have 0 issues, if 3074 isnt going anywhere else but you dont have it, that could be your problem, although when me and my brother play i get 3074 he gets port 19059, we both always have open nat nomatter who turns xbox on first, and we can always connect to eachother and everyone else

When i set NO on the function ENABLE NAT in section WAN i have no internet on my device i lan and wireless. Why ?

I try this disabled because i can not run tunnel IPSEC to other router...(DRAYTEK VIGOR). When i connect my PC with out router ASUS i can connect with no problem. I try this on notebook with WIn 7 x64 Pro and PC with Win 8.1 x64 Pro. On all is problem. Can you help me...please ?

Xbox 360 Live & Xbox One UPNP NAT Network Solution

Thank you everyone for the great tips in this thread! I struggled mightily in trying to get things working properly. I went so far as to have Xbox 360 as the only device on my network and on a reserved IP address within the designated DHCP address range. Finally, I followed the procedure within this thread and can now use both my Xbox One and Xbox 360 simultaneously. Hopefully I titled this post to the thread in a way that others Xbox users can find easily.

I am using an Acer RT-AC68U router with Merlin Firmware 3.0.0.4.374.40 Alpha 4. Settings for other Acer routers may vary slightly. This assumes that you have a network connection but cannot get the Xbox Live to work on the Xbox 360.

1. Reserve a static IP address in the DHCP range for the router (verified by MAC Address).

2. WAN: Internet Connections: Basic Config: Enable PNP: NO (Apply change)

3. WAN: Virtual Server/Port Fowarding: Enable Port Forwarding: Click on YES (Apply change) - Note that there is no need to make any other changes in this section for purposes of using Xbox Live.

4. LAN: Switch Control: NAT Acceleration: Select DISABLE (Apply change)

5. Click the "Reboot" button at the top of the menu page to reboot the router.

6. After the router has rebooted, go to WAN: Internet Connections: Basic Config: Enable PNP: YES (Apply change)

7. Click the "Reboot" button at the top of the menu page to reboot the router.

8. Turn on Xbox 360 go to "Network Settings" and apply factory default settings. The Xbox 360 will then select your Reserved IP address and Gateway information automatically.

9. Test and verify that Xbox Live connects properly.

10. To check that the correct ports are working on your Asus Router from the menu - System Log: Port Forwarding: Click Refresh You should see the IP address you are using for your Xbox 360 using port 3074.

I have Comcast IPv6 in our area and have that enabled. I believe the Xbox One uses IPv6 which might be why I can use both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One simultaneously. Those with IPv4 only may not necessarily have similar luck. Thanks again to all of those who provided this great solution - I wish it had been posted in the ASUS Configuration thread on the Xbox forums.

The XBOX 360 has no IPv6 support. The XBOX ONE does, though.
